Pemba Island is a part of a coral reef
barrier along the Tanzania Coast. The resort here is
becoming recognized as among the top in the world. The
crystal clear water, beautiful beaches and luxurious
vegetation form a paradise that provides a wonderful
combination of Swahili culture, superb diving, snorkeling,
game fishing and wonderful cuisine. The Island
consists of gentle, undulating hills and deep verdant
valleys which are all covered with a dense cover of clove,
coconut and mango plantation. We offer only two hotels on
Pemba Island - the
Manta
Reef Lodge and the
Funduu Lagoon.
Both offer great locations, and great beaches.
The tourism industry in Pemba is still in its infancy and
infrastructure is therefore quite basic, although this is
slowly beginning to change with a few exclusive resorts
springing up on the island. Pemba is definitely one of the
jewels of the Indian Ocean and is patiently waiting to be
explored. The Island lies approximately 80 km northeast of
Zanzibar Island (Unguja) and is about the same distance from
the Tanzanian mainland, situated directly east of the of the
port of Tanga. Unlike Unguja, Pemba does not enjoy the easy
accessibility to the external world. Therefore, its
nice landscape and white sandy beaches have not been
exploited to their potential. Pemba is largely untouched,
green, and to say the least, still virgin.
