Ngezi Rain Forest
Pemba Island is a mosaic of forest, swamps, mangroves and
lagoons is scattered with ruined mosques and tombs, now
reclaimed by the forest. The gezi Peninsula is the
northernmost point on Pemba. Much of the area is taken up by
the Ngezi Forest, which is the last remains of a huge tract
of indigenous forest which used to cover most of Pemba.
Ngezi is home to the Pemba Flying Fox, a bat endemic to the
island. The forest itself is a protected area and there is
an information centre, a nature trail and a small entrance
fee.
Misali Marine Park
Misali is surrounded by coral reef that descend steeply with
hard corals up to 64 meters deep, making an island a
preferred spot for diving. About 66% of the coral genera
known in Tanzania are found at Misali Island together with
over 350 fish species from 43 families. Highly threatened
Green and Hawksbill sea turtles nests at Mpapaini and
Mbuyuni beaches, with a minimum of 20 nests annually. The
island supports a variety of indigenous and migratory sea
bird species. Misali is an island southwest of Pemba Island.
It is the perfect destination for nature lovers because it
is a sanctuary for sea birds and turtles. The nesting
turtles and breeding sea birds are found on the western side
of Misali Island.
The rainy season comes mostly in April and
May with the strongest SE winds in June. As one progresses
from July through September the periods of strong wind
decrease and those of calm increase. Our yearly scuba divers
from all over the world come down to Mombasa or Zanzibar
Island and are then transferred all the way to Pemba Island
to explore the reefs and ocean marine life.

Pemba Game
Fishing
The Pemba Channel is widely known, and is
considered one of the world's best places
for fishing. The Pemba Channel itself is
Africa's premier marlin destination.
Striped, black and blue marlin, broadbill,
mako, sailfish, tiger and other sharks,
dorado, wahoo, yellowfin tuna and many other
game fish are all to be found in her azure
waters. The island itself is covered in
dense rainforest in the north and rich
fertile soil where huge bananas and mangoes
grow like weeds, together with coconuts,
lychees and of course cloves.

Diving in Pemba Island
Pemba is famous for its superb
night diving where a motley crew
of nudibrachs, pleurobranchs,
squid, mantis shrimps and other
strange life-forms come out of
hiding. Pemba has more
interesting, more varied and
often more spectacular diving
than anywhere in Kenya or
Tanzania. Spectacular underwater
sights, stunning blue-water
drop-offs, awe-inspiring hard
and soft coral gardens,
magnificent scenery, a sparkling
clear blue sea - everything
combines to ensure the diving
holiday of a lifetime.
